God’s Response to Prayer by Lovis Kwasi Armah

“Blessed are you,” the angel said, unveiling to the woman who was then walking on a foot path that led to her home. It was in the days when angels appeared to humans whilst still keeping their supernatural forms. The woman immediately covered her eyes as the angel’s loose robe and countenance shone with too much exquisite whiteness beyond what the eye could see.

“God dispatched me to attend to your distress. Why are you this sad,” the angel continued, pulling the woman up from rendering any worship.

“God is known to have so much power, so why does God tarries in answering the prayer of some good people,”   the woman asked, controlling her sobs.

“I will show you one of the mysteries regarding God’s response to prayer that has been kept from humans because you have clean hands, possess a pure heart, and never lift up your soul to what is false. Remove the hand covering your eyes,” the angel said.

After the woman opened her eyes, she took the form of an angel and both were whisked to a village she hailed from. They entered a church of rural folks, and the angel took her beside an old-woman praying for farm inputs for her diseased crops. They also saw another the Angel identified as an Elder who was praying for healing. Both were in tears and in pain, and the angels could tell.

“Why do you make these people weep for something that God can easily give?” The angel pointed to a man identified as the Elder and said, “He gets his healing once he answers the old-woman” “How can human answer the prayer of a fellow? Are you refusing to answer because of this man? Tell me how can this be fair?”  The angel without answering held her hand, and at this they got whisked to the elder’s work place.

There, the woman saw that the Elder was a simple man of no authority but highly regarded as a good man by all. She was also shown how the Elder knew about some syndicates who stole farm inputs meant for farmers, yet he had not fought this evil.

So now the angel asked her, tell me, why is that the old-woman’s prayer has not been answered?

“But God is all powerful and don’t need this man’s help to answer that of the old-woman,” the woman answered.  “That you have spoken well, you humans have no imagination that big enough to draw the power of God. But think of it this way, Good people are also God’s foremost agent through whom God execute his will on earth. And therefore people who pray are God’s primary army to fight in the physical world, the same ongoing conflict in the spiritual world - the battle between good and evil. When they refuse to fight evil and let evil prevail they actively contribute to the dishonor against my power. “

The angel, now in a whispering tone, said “Don’t get me wrong, this is not a denial of the grace gospel but an affirmation of ‘Do unto others as you would have do unto you.’  Every time a good deeds of any human results in answering the prayer of someone, it magnifies God’s power and registers strongly in heaven; and same way when an inaction of anyone results in a fruitless and needless prayer, it minimizes God’s power to act.”

Now embracing the woman, and later extending his wings, “God’s priority list for answering prayer is; first anyone who works to stop a needless prayer, and then proceeds to answer those who collaborates with him to answer that of others, before that of good people. “

“Go and tell the Elder the secret revealed and why his prayer will tarry if all he does is to speak in tongues.”

You now understand why answer to the prayer of some good people tarry?”

“Yes,” the woman answered. The woman’s eye opened and realized is a dream that can’t be ignored.
